Joe Pizza is the latest concept from the owners of Ask For Luigi, Pourhouse and Pizzeria Farina. We were given a new canvas to work with on the UBC campus. At first glance, the empty concrete box appeared formidable. However, natural light, high ceilings and the transparency and openness of the garage door are all great qualities of the space. Based on this, we created a design strategy to enhance all these qualities.

The high ceilings are captured by the hanging garden and storage for the pizza boxes. When combined with the counter, it creates both a storefront and a screen for the back of house functions.

We then aligned the seating with the garage door to capture the natural light flooding the space. The pizza lovers experience the transparency and openness of the space and feel connect to the outdoor patio.
