LAKESIDE PAVILION

Nestled in the Naramata Bench, is a small intimate outcropping with expansive panoramic views of the Okanagan Lake. Owner Ian MacDonald of Liquidity Wines ask us to design a lakeside structure and tasked us with three fundamental criteria. Make it simple, make it durable, make it functional and make all of that…evocative.

Our first instinct was to ask, how can we create a 'place' here? We decided to allow the site and the criteria to orient the structure, generate the form and inform the material selection. What emerged from the process was an evocative form that is transformative throughout the day; compliments the topography; provides shelter, shade and frames views. To complete the design, we employed three basic timeless materials, concrete, reinforcing bar and cedar planks.

This 'place' is about wonder and delight...
